Developing in the Baby Room

As well as learning through active play, much of our under 2’s learning stems from their drive to investigate their surroundings with all their senses. This includes fun with water, sand and other malleable materials.

In the baby room, we care and support children ranging from 3 months to two years old. The needs of each child varies during this age range. Therefore, we have both the ‘safe crawl room’ (equipped for our youngest babies) and the ‘active side room’ (for the older, more mobile children). Most babies will start in the safe crawl room and then transition across to the active side as they grow and develop depending at what age they join the First Steps family.

In both rooms, each child is cared for and supported as they tackle new challenges during stages of growth. As the younger children develop and once they are ready, they are encouraged to sit independently, roll over and crawl before attempting to take their first steps.

Each child is assigned their own ‘key person’ who works closely with them to support their individual needs and at the same time builds a strong partnership with parent.

A babyroom wouldn’t be quite right without an abundance of nursery rhymes and singing. Whether in groups or during routines such as nappy changing, we embrace every opportunity to develop our rhythm and vocabulary through a good sing song.

A truly nurturing environment for your child to thrive and grow
