This morning, at the end of our ‘oral hygiene we

This morning, at the end of our ‘oral hygiene week,’ we had a very special guest visit nursery to speak to some of our babies, toddlers and pre-school children.
One of our parents in toddler room is a dentist and kindly agreed to visit and speak about how important it it to look after our teeth!
He told us what he does at work and how he checks for good teeth and bad teeth.
We also had a demonstration with some pretend teeth on how we should brush them and talked about healthy eating also to keep our teeth nice and strong and how chocolates and sweets can cause cavities! We don’t want those do we children!
He then read a very special book about the dentist and the children listened so well!
The children then each had a go at brushing the pretend teeth which was the most fun part! They were given a sticker for their super effort just like when you visit the dentist! Thank you so much for coming in and talking to us. A lovely session enjoyed by both staff and children. ☺️ #eyfsoralhygiene #dentistkids

“I do it!!”

Have you ever noticed your Toddler is desperate to do things themselves? This is because gaining independence of simple tasks gives the children a real sense of achievement and control over their lives, which, in turn, will improve behaviour and reduce temper tantrums.

This little one has mastered the technique of putting on his own shoes and is so proud of himself for it. You’ll notice there are no tricky laces or buckles to manage just a simple Velcro strap.

At First Steps we love to foster independence in our children, you’ll see us offering lots of encouragement and rewards to your children for their hard work and perseverance, but there’s nothing quite like the intrinsic reward of a proud face!
